There are two ways for you to get the same done.





First is that you learn the required skills and then do the development and hosting by yourself. This will be cost effective but will be time consuming.





secondly you can get in touch with soe eweb development firms share the need with them. They will design, develop and host the website for you.





This will be faster easier and comfortable for you.

Go to school to learn website design (or if you're like me and good at learning programming languages, learn it from a book)





Gmail, Yahoo, etc were created using lots of server end programming. You could easily make something that looks like Gmail or Yahoo but to make it functional you need high level programming, mainly server side.





My guess on what they used


definitely Javascript


definitely HTML


definitley CSS


maybe some SHTML or DHTML


And a whole bunch of other server side programming languages





Oh yeah, you'll also maybe need to learn how to set up your own server as I'm not sure how easy it is to rent a server to handle that stuff. If you want to turn it into a business, you definitely want your own servers, and you'll definitely want to hire a dedicated web designer (take it from a business major).

Reply:Google uses a toolkit called the "Google Web Toolkit" (GWT) for many of it's web applications. GWT is like programming a java interface but the interface is compiled to web based javascript.





There are lots of good books on GWT and some good web tutorials from Sun





If you want the same look as Yahoo, you need to look into the Yahoo User Interface Library (YUI).
